In Spain so called romerias are annual pilgrimages to chapels and churches associated with particular saints or virgins. People make their way on carriages torn by oxen or on foot, generally wearing their traditional dresses. The most famous ones on Tenerife are the Romeria of San Isidro in La Orotava, of San Roque in Garachico and the one in honour of San Benito in San Cristóbal de La Laguna.
